Brief Overview
ZINC CARBONATE is a water insoluble Zinc source. It can be converted to other Zinc compounds, such as the oxide by heating (calcination). Carbonate compounds also give off carbon dioxide when treated with dilute acids. This chemical appears as a white crystalline solid or powder, soluble in alkalis and numerous other acids. This chemical is a barrier protecting against dilapidation (iron and steel). The substance comes in different grades: military grade, Reagent and Technical Grade, Food, Agricultural and Pharmaceutical Grade and Optical Grade.
Manufacturing Process
To prepare the zinc carbonate, there are several steps to undertake. There are also many ways to manufacture it. One of the reactions include treating a basic oxygen-containing zinc compound (however not a salt) with carbon dioxide (it has to be in a specific environment, in this case a solution of a zinc salt of a water-soluble organic acid).
Medicine and cosmetics:
In medicine and cosmetics, Zinc Carbonate is used as an ingredient of ointment, applied to inflamed surfaces as an astringent and absorbent; cream.
Electronics:
In electronics, Zinc carbonate is also present in zinc anodes known as batteries used on appliances, television monitors and lighting.
Farming:
In farming, the substance is used as antiseptic in animal wounds and is sometimes supplied in the diet to avoid diseases caused by zinc deficiency.
