    Brief overview

Sec-butyl acetate (or sec-butyl ester) is a clear, colorless organic liquid with the formula C6H12O2. It is flammable, aromatic, volatile, has good solubility in organic matter, and has high volatility. It is widely used as a solvent for products such as enamels and lacquers. Its applicability as a solvent is mainly due to its high solubility in various non-aqueous materials.

    Manufacturing Process

The following are the three main methods for producing sec-butyl acetate:

    1. Sec-butanol reacts with acetic anhydride to produce sec-butyl acetate.
    2. 2-butene was mixed with glacial acetic acid containing 10% sulfuric acid and heated under pressure at a temperature of 115-120°C to give sec-butyl ester.
    3. Sec-butanol esterification produces sec-butyl acetate.

    Solvent
Since sec-butyl acetate has a high solubility in many organic solvents, it is widely used as a solvent for lacquers, enamels, etc.
