Introduction

Potato protein is the by-product left after potato starch has been extracted from potatoes. It has a very well-balanced amino acid profile and high protein content, making it highly suitable for use in animal feeds. Potato protein is protein sparing due to its high amino acid content.

Manufacturing Process

Potato protein is first separated from potato starch in potatoes. To extract the protein from the remaining residue, acid and heat are used to coagulate the protein, before it is removed via filtration and centrifugation. The isolated protein is then dried, resulting in a dry powder that has high crude protein content of approximately 80%.

Animal Feed

Potato protein is used as a good source of protein and metabolizable energy for animals. It also contains several essential amino acids required by animals such as lysine, threonine and methionine.
