BRIEF OVERVIEW
For many decades, nylon films made from polyamide. nylon resins have been useful for many reasons - including toughness, transparency and cost effectiveness. They have often been chosen as ideal candidates for heavy duty industrial applications where toughness and durability are of primary concern - especially where high barrier properties related to gas, fat and transmission of aroma are necessary. These applications typically require high resistance to impact puncture and pin holing.
Molds and resins
Nylon resins are widely used in the automobile industry especially in the engine compartment. Molded nylon is used in hair combs and mechanical parts such as machine screws, gears, gaskets, and other low- to medium-stress components previously cast in metal.
Food packaging
Nylon resins are used as a component of food packaging films where an oxygen barrier is needed. Some of the terpolymers based upon nylon are used every day in packaging.
Filaments
Nylon filaments are primarily used in brushes especially toothbrushes and string trimmers. They are also used as monofilaments in fishing line.
