Mono Potassium Phosphate (MKP), also known as Potassium Dihydrogen Phosphate or Acidic Potassium Phosphate, is a great source of water soluble potassium and phosphate. It is also a buffering agent. MKP is commonly used in fertilizer mixtures and they maintain low pH and low salt index which prevents ammonia release from the soil. Acidic Potassium Phosphate are free of chloride, sodium which are harmful for plants. They are very good fertilizer for all stages of growth. They are white or colourless crystal powder which are easily soluble in water.
Mono potassium phosphates are produced using phosphoric acid and potassium hydroxide. Potassium chloride is an alternative used in the manufacturing process of mono potassium phosphate. Ion-exchangers, long-chain tertiary amines are used for purification of mono potassium phosphate by removal of chlorides.
Monopotassium phosphate is used in the beverage industry to improve and enhance soft drinks, juices, dairy beverages and sparkling wine. Monopotassium phosphate solutions promote yeast fermentation, increases yield and improve shelf life in the production of wine, beer and spirits. It’s solution is used to improve flavor, carbonation and storage stability. Monopotassium phosphate solution is used in juice and tea that provides mineral fortification, color stabilization and increased shelf life for juice and tea formulations. In isotonic drinks, monopotassium phosphate is used to optimize electrolyte formulations. Monopotassium phosphate can provide buffering, tartness control, flow conditioning and calcium to contribute to the product’s nutrient profile.
Monopotassium phosphate is used to manufacture metaphosphate in medicine for urinary acidification treatment.
Monopotassium phosphate is used as the source of phosphorus and potassium for plants. Seeds are soaked and dressed using acidic potassium phosphate.
