Its appearance is colorless and viscous. It is a liquid. It possesses very good plasticizing properties and may be used as a direct replacement for DEHP and DINP in many applications. DPHP is highly weather resistant, and has a great ability to withstand prolonged sunlight without breaking down.
Manufacturing Process
DI PROPYL HEPTYL PHTHALATE (DP HP) is usually prepared using phthalic anhydride, 2-propylheptanol and activated carbon. The production requires the usage of catalyst; and also high temperature. The acidity of the reaction is controlled by adding sodium carbonate.
Application:
DPHP is used to make polyvinyl chloride (PVC) soft and flexible. It is used in automotive sector, because it is strong enough not to break while being flexible enough to withstand the movements of the car.
DPHP is also highly weather resistant, and has a great ability to withstand prolonged sunlight without breaking down, making it ideal for products such as roofing membranes that are used to cover large buildings and arenas.
Because the chemical can withstand prolonged exposure to high temperatures, it is also used for electrical cables and wires.
