DICYCLOPENTADIENE is a chemical compound with formula C10H12. At room temperature, it is a clear light yellow color liquid with an acrid odor. DCPD is highly reactive and thus a useful intermediate in the preparation of a variety of performance chemicals.
Dicyclopentadiene is co-produced in large quantities in the steam cracking of naphtha and gas oils to ethylene. Its manufacturing process is a part of the separation stage of crude C5 streams which is a by-product of ethylene manufacturing.
Dicyclopentadiene is used in a wide variety of products. It is part of the resins used in molded parts for example boat hulls, shower stalls and tubs.
DCPD is also used in the production of EPDM rubber that is used for its heat and weather resistance. Moreover, dicyclopentadiene can be found in the manufacture of various adhesives, varnishes, inks and paints.
