Brief Overview

Phosphoric acid and ammonia solution are combined to form monoammonium phosphate. Ammonium dihydrogen phosphate, another name for monoammonium phosphate, is a common ingredient in fertilizer and food industries. The crystal structure of monoammonium phosphate is tetragonal crystal prism. Ammonium dihydrogen phosphate is widely used in the optical industry due to its crystal structure. Ammoniacal nitrogen (11%), and P2O5 (52%), are the typical contents of monoammonium phosphate.

Manufacturing Process

Commercial production of monoammonium phosphate involves a 1:1 reaction between ammonia and phosphoric acid that yields a slurry of monoammonium phosphate. The granulator is then used to solidify the monoammonium phosphates. In a pipe cross reactor, ammonia and phosphoric acid can react 1:1 to produce monoammonium phosphate. This reaction produces heat that evaporates water and solidifies the monoammonium phosphate product.

Agricultural Industry

Monoammonium phosphate is widely used in making effective organic complex fertilizers, compound fertilizers, and bulk blending fertilizers. Monoammonium phosphate is required to sustain healthy plant growth.

Food Industry

In the food industry, monoammonium phosphate is primarily used as a food additive, fermentation aid, and nutrient. It is frequently used in food preparation as a leavening agent. Monoammonium phosphate is a leavening agent that improves baked food's nutrition and encourages fermentation. For all plants and crops, monoammonium phosphate is utilized in nutrition and foliar feeding.

Other Applications

In ceramics, enamels, fireproofing applications, dry fire extinguisher powders, and fermentation processes, monoammonium phosphate finds use.
