Technical Document

Brief Overview:

Crude sulfate turpentine (also known as sulfate wood turpentine) is a derivative product of turpentine acquired via the distillation of resin occurring in live trees, particularly pines. It is a flammable fluid which is insoluble in water but dissolves in certain solvents. Crude sulfate turpentine is obtained as a byproduct of the Kraft process with the help of substrates and catalysts. Crude sulfate turpentine comprises terpene hydrocarbons and miscellaneous sulfur compounds.

Manufacturing Process:

Crude sulfate turpentine is extracted during kraft wood pulping process. The procedure separates cellulose fibers from pines and other coniference trees, which are used to manufacture paper. The technology for crude sulfate turpentine includes extraction of terpen hydrocarbons vapors from evaporators and digester and separating it from turpentine water. The gas generated from the digesters are condensed to obtain crude sulfate turpentine.

Chemical Feedstock:

Crude sulfate turpentine act as a feedstock for manufacturers who produce pinenes, flavorings, polymer additives, pine oil, fragrances and turpentine oil as it itself is a fuel that contains organic compounds, mainly alpha-pinene and beta-pinene and other terpenes. These chemicals can be applied as solvents, materials for adhesives making, flotators, biologically active substances, polymerization activators and for manufacturing of perfume additives.
